You will see a short advertisement.

You open Temu and the screen flashes. A roulette wheel spins, confetti falls, a clock starts counting down the minutes. Products marked R$ 0.00 appear in your cart. The feeling is like winning the mall lottery.

The free gift is real. It just comes with rules. Temu has turned shopping into a game, with roulette wheels, flash sales, coupons, and challenges within the app, and those who understand how each one works get much more out of it. In this guide, you'll see how Temu's free gifts and promotions work, what to look for before finalizing your cart, and who pays the import tax when the order comes from abroad.

Temu: the shopping app that became a game

Temu is one of the most downloaded shopping apps in the world. It has over 1 billion downloads on Google Play, where it has a 4.7 rating with more than 13 million reviews. In the Brazilian App Store, the rating is 4.5. Promotions appear in various formats:

  • Flash sales: Discounts that last for a few hours, with a countdown timer on the screen.

  • Roulette and games: You spin, play, or complete missions and receive discounts, credits, or discounted items. Each game has its own rules.

  • First purchase coupons: When they exist in your region, they appear to those who have just created an account.

  • Invitation from friends: Some promotions require you to invite other people to the app. The reward and conditions vary from campaign to campaign.

The roulette wheel and the R$ 0.00 item: how it works in practice.

A test published by TechTudo in July 2026 showed the entire process. The roulette wheel stopped at a 100% discount and unlocked items at R$ 0.00. To get the first item, the app required a minimum purchase of R$ 50 in other products. Only one item was free in this stage. To unlock the next item, another R$ 40 was required in purchases.

The clock ticking away the minutes serves a purpose: to speed up your decision. Take a breath, check your cart, and decide at your own pace.

Summary: the free gift exists, and it comes attached to a shopping cart. Anyone who was already going to buy something at Temu gets an extra item. Those who enter just for the free gift need to do the math before paying.

The rules that govern every promotion.

Temu's Terms of Use in Brazil, in effect since January 4, 2026, clearly explain how the game works:

    • One bill per person: Creating multiple accounts to claim the same bonus is prohibited.

    • The promotion rule applies more: Each campaign has its own rules, and they take precedence over what you read in an advertisement or video.

    • Abuse of promotion is prohibited. Using tricks to circumvent the rules violates the app's terms.

    • Rewards don't turn into money: Credits and bonuses can be used for in-app purchases.

    • Account closed, rewards lost. that were stored inside.

Participating in a roulette or game does not guarantee a prize. The rules of each promotion are within the app itself: read them before starting.

Step-by-step guide to taking advantage of Temu's promotions.

      1. Install Temu using the button at the top of this page, on Google Play, or on the App Store.

      2. Create your account using your email or mobile phone number. Use only one account.

      3. On the home screen, tap the offers and games banners to see the campaigns running in your country.

      4. Before playing, open the promotion rules and check the deadline, minimum purchase amount, and how many items are unlocked.

      5. Fill your cart with the items you were going to buy anyway and see if it meets the minimum purchase amount.

      6. On the checkout screen, check the total including shipping and taxes before confirming.

        Tax and shipping: who pays?

According to Temu's Terms of Use in Brazil, the buyer is the importer. ICMS (a Brazilian sales tax), import duties, and shipping costs are the buyer's responsibility. The R$ 0.00 bonus does not change this calculation: the final total appears on the payment screen. In other countries, taxes are governed by local import laws.

Did you cancel your order? See where the money goes.

In the same TechTudo test, a cancellation refund was credited back to the app, not to the card. Delivery also took over a month. Two lessons learned:

        1. When requesting a refund, check if the chosen option returns the amount to the payment method or to your Temu balance.

        2. Buy in advance. Birthday presents ordered at the last minute won't arrive.

How does Temu compare to other stores?

Other shopping apps also have reward programs, each with its own format:

          • SHEIN: There's a Free Trial where you apply to receive a product and, if chosen, publish a review with photos. There's also a points program: 100 points are worth US$$ 1 discount, up to a limit of 30% off the product value.

          • Shopee: You pay with coins for purchases and in-app games, which then become discounts on future purchases.

          • AliExpress: Focus on limited-time offers and coupons.

If you were already planning a purchase and want to add something extra, start with Temu: open the promotions, read the rules, and fill your cart with the minimum purchase amount in mind.
