You bought a 5G phone, signed up for a plan that promises 5G, live in a city with 5G—and yet 4G is still showing up in the corner of the screen. It's not a defect, and in most cases it's not even a lack of signal: it's... a switch turned off in the settings that almost nobody knows exists.
On some devices, 5G comes disabled from the factory. On others, the problem is the chosen network mode, the old SIM card, or an incorrect APN configuration after switching carriers. These are four things to check, and none of them takes more than a minute.
The key hidden in the settings
The path is usually Settings, Connections, Mobile data, and Network mode. That's where you choose whether the device can use 5G.

A 4G chip works on regular 5G, but pure 5G requires, with some carriers, a new chip to be installed — which is free of charge.
